Sports Clubs

Here at St Martin’s we aim to enter a range of sports competitions each term with the intention to improve the children’s experience in a variety of team games as well as gaining a competitive spirit and skills of commitment, leadership and teamwork. We also take part in league competitions in netball and football.

For each competition, we hold trials for the appropriate year groups to allow all children who wish to take part the opportunity to showcase their talent with the aim to represent St Martin’s through their chosen sport.

Football

Each academic year, we enter the towns league and cup competitions. We run practice sessions for the children at lunch times in preparation for matches and competitions which allows any child from year 5 and 6 to have the opportunity to be selected for the team. The Year 6 football team is managed and trained by Mr. Flynn.

Netball

Each academic year, we enter the towns league and cup competitions. We run practice sessions for the children after school in preparation for matches and competitions which allows any child from year 5 and 6 to have the opportunity to be selected for the team.
The Netball team is managed and trained by Mrs Perkins.

Athletics

Mrs O’Mahony runs an athletic club for Key Stage 2 children all year round. During this club, the children get the opportunity to practise their skills in short distance and long distance running, long jump and throwing. Children are then selected to enter a wide range of competitions throughout the year. These range from: Cross Country, Zone and Town Sports and.

Gaelic Football

Our Year 5 have had an intensive 6 week unit of Gaelic football training run by a professional coach. During this time, the children have been taught many Gaelic football related skills, as well as the art of team work, fair play and leadership and communication. At the end of the unit, the children were invited to play in a Gaelic Football tournament in St Albans against many other schools within and outside of Luton.
